Film trailers show short clips from a film placed together to create a short showing which aims to attract the audience to want to watch more of the advertising film. there are different types of trailers, along with different genre's.
The different types of trailers consist of...
- A Theatrical Trailer which usually lasts a maximum of two and a half minutes.
-A teaser trailer which is usually shorter than a minute and a half cut fromvarious scenes.
-DVD trailer advertised before DVD starts, usually connected tot he genre of the DVD so the chances of people wanting to watch it increases.
- Internet trailer produced exclusively for the Internet or movie homepage may include cut scenes.
However the bigger difference is in the genre of the film. For example horror
-Eerie music
-Jumping/quick shots
-Close up shots
-Writing instead of over voice
-Women victims!
-A mans low voice if there is a voice over
The main aim of a horror film trailer, is to scare the audience even before they have watched the actual film. This style tend to drag the audience into it as much as they can, one technique that is almost always used is the slow zoom.
Another genre of film trailer is comedy. they tend to place the funniest parts of the entire film into the short trailer again, draw the audiences attention. One thing that comedy films do that horrors tend not to do is actually describe the storyline.
-Jokes
-Music stops (filled by funny quote)
-Known characters
-Explanation of a storyline.
Romantic films or romantic comedies are much nicer trailers, they tend to have smooth transitions, soft voice overs, close up camera shots, slow shots etc.
